講義題目: Single Electron Transport Problem (講義は日本語で行われます)
要旨:
The single electron transport in mesoscopic systems will be given an elementary, and introductory account. The lecture will focus on the single electron transistor, the most fundamental device among the mesoscopic systems. We start with the fundamental experimental findings, briefly review what is the problem and what was done theoretically, and then go on to a newly developed theoretical method, the cluster transfer matrix method, to try to solve this issue. The ultimate goal is to calculate the current-voltage characteristic non-perturbatively.

講演題目: Cluster transfer matrix method for the single electron transport
要旨:
The single electron transport, particularly the competition between the Coulomb blockade and the strong tunneling, has recently been a challenging problem. We will discuss a newly developed method, cluster transfer matrix method, for the single electron box, the equilibrium case of the single electron transistor, calculating exactly the average electron number in the box as a function of temperature, tunnel conductance, and polarization charge. An attempt to extend the method to non-equilibrium case, i.e. the calculation of conductance of the ultra-small tunnel junction and the single electron transistor will also be discussed.
